We are very excited to announce that our superstar diving F-Teamers Melissa Wu and Anabelle Smith Have been selected for the Australian team competing at the FINA World Championships in July. Funkita and Funky Trunks will be decking out the entire Australian diving team in Supersonic.

With just over a month to go, Melissa and Anabelle are excited to be competing on the world stage. We caught up with the girls in between dives.

Melissa Wu

Three-time Olympian Melissa Wu is no stranger to the World Championships stage - 2017 will be her fifth time competing and she qualified in three events! Just because she's a veteran of this competition doesn't mean qualifying was a walk in the park for her.

Since the Rio Olympics, Melissa has been dealing with stress fractures in her back. Managing these have seen her modifying her training program frequently.

"My training involves a lot of functional conditioning to build strength and make my diving more dynamic. I've also been focusing a lot more on basics than usual so that I don't overload my back, but this also means that I have good and consistent technique when it comes to performing my harder dives," Melissa says.

Melissa will compete in the 10 metre platform, the 10 metre synchro with Taneka Kovchenko and the 10 metre mixed synchro with Domonic Bedggood. As both Taneka and Domonic live in different states to Sydney-sider Melissa, getting together to train will involve interstate travel in the lead up to the competition.

Anabelle Smith

Olympic bronze medallist Anabelle Smith is really excited to compete in her third World Championships after injury forced her to miss the 2015 competition. Anabelle, along with partner Maddison Keeney, will compete in the 3m synchro springboard - the event they won bronze in Rio for. She will also compete in the individual 3m springboard event as well.

In preparation for the Australian Diving Championships and the World Trials, Anabelle has been travelling across the world competing at various diving competitions along the way. The extra competition experience was a bonus to her training, but the travel was a struggle.

"It's difficult when you travel so far then have to recover from the flight and be competition ready within a few days. The biggest challenge is coming home and having to jump straight back into training - organisation is key to ensuring I'm sleeping well and focussed to get the job done," Anabelle says.

Like Melissa, this will be Anabelle's first trip to Budapest and she's looking forward to the city and the competition.

"I'm really looking forward to the individual 3m springboard because I haven't competed in an individual event at a major international meet for the past couple of years!"

We can't wait to see Melissa and Anabelle pull out their best moves in Budapest along with the rest of the Diving Australia team.
