On Sunday the 2018 Britsh Summer Nationals came to a close, and the action was nail biting until the ver end. F-Teammers Matt Richards, Archie Goodburn, and and new kid on the block Jakob Goodman were all in good form across the six day meet and magaged to rack up and impressive 15 medals between them

Of these three boys, Royal Wolverhampton swimmer Matt Richards was the star of the show, managing to win gold in all five of his events. Matt's first race was the 100m Freestyle and he started off with a bang, setting a new Junior Welsh record in a time of 50.57 which is just 0.04 shy of Scottish Commonwealth swimmer Craig McClean's age group record. Then, on his second day of racing, he broke the 15-year-old British Age Group record for 100m Butterfly with an impressive 54.51. But we'd have to say that Matt's most outstanding swim of the meet was in the 200m Freestyle on the closing day. After a comfortable heat swim, he secured his fifth individual gold medal touching in a world class time of 1.50.84, breaking yet another 15-year British Age group record, this time one held by 2018 Commonwealth Games champion Duncan Scott.

Archie Goodburn, in the 17/18 year category, also had some record breaking performances. He claimed gold in the 50m Breaststroke in speedy time of 28.04 breaking the 17 year old age group record held by fellow Scot Craig Benson. Archie then went on to win gold in the 200m Butterfly, in a personal best time of 2:00.46, as well as in the 200m IM where he finished clear of his competitors in a time of 2:04.14. He also swam to silver in the 100m Breaststroke and bagged bronze medals in both the 100m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly.

Our newest F-Teamer, Jakob Goodman, held his own against some tough competition in the 17/18 year-old category. Jakob picked up silver in the 400m Freestyle in a time of 3:55.00, silver in the 400m IM in 4:28.64 and silver in the 800m Freestyle in a time of 8:09.00. In a tough 200m Butterfly final Jakob just missed out on the medals, finishing 4th by 0.01 of a second. He saved the best till last in the 200m Freestyle where he finished in second in a new personal best time of 1:50.00, so close to breaking the 1:50.00 barrier and only 0.02 shy of the gold medal.

With some seriously impressive swims the rest of Britain better get a move on... our Funky Trunkers are coming for them!
